Kinsey led Pierce into her living room, nervously attempting to push baby toys toward the sides of the room so it didn't look like the whole house had been taken over by baby things. Of course, that was the reality, but she didn't want to scare Pierce off too quickly. As much as he insisted he was okay with her being a mom, she knew it was a lot different to accept it in theory than to actually witness the way parenthood took over every aspect of your life. That had sort of been the point of taking him back here today, though, she remembered, and stopped trying to find a way to get Ollie's activity mat, jumper, and musical table all out of the way.
Her older sister, Sadie, had Ollie for the afternoon, so it had seemed like a good way to ease Pierce into the baby stuff without actually having him meet the baby. "It's kind of a mess," she told him, but didn't apologize. "It was a hectic morning, and... well, it's pretty much always a mess. The only time I have to clean is when he's napping, and then the kitchen and the nursery come first, and I know the second I turn the vacuum on the nap's over and I have, like, five minutes before he starts screaming bloody murder if he isn't out of his crib, so..." She trailed off with a shrug, trying to analyze Pierce's expression.
He'd looked pretty guarded ever since she'd suggested they go back to her house, like he was trying to prevent her from being able to figure out what he was thinking. At first it had been sweet that he was that worried about even reacting in a way that might upset her, but now it was just kind of frustrating because she was starting to get nervous about not knowing what he thought. She pushed on, anyway, essentially going for broke, and picked up a framed picture of Ollie with all three of her sisters and handed it to Pierce. "So... that's my son. And my sisters. You'll meet Sadie sooner or later, and the two younger ones are Delaney and Harper."
