"It would've been perfect if Michael Kay wasn't there-"
Hey, what a coincidence! That's how I start every sentence when Michael Kay is anywhere. There's seriously not enough blame to hand out in the Sox series though. I'm not reactionary, so I'm mainly just laughing my ass off right now. I mean, the battery actually called for an inside fastball to Prince Fielder, and then seemed surrpised when he hit it. Wtf.

...If this is how Mo's career ends, I'm going to be devastated, even as a Sox fan.

I think all baseball fans will be devastated. It's so sad. I shouldn't have watched the video clip of it because it was a little scarring. You can see ARod saying "oh my god, oh my god."
The idea of a 42 year old whose contract is up at the end of a season coming back from torn ACL/damaged meniscus seems tragically unlikely but Mo is like a baseball g-d, I refuse to believe he's mortal. Maybe he can heal himself like Wolverine. I really really really hope this is not the end. |

He'd also hinted that he was thinking about retiring at the end of the season anyway, so it's not even fully a contract issue. I wonder if this will change those plans, or...
And, well. What also suddenly enters the equation is all the speculation Mo lied about his age/is a few years older than he is. It's always been there and seems pretty likely, but it's mattered very little because he's so dominant and good at what he does. But an ACL injury is difficult enough to recover from as a teenager, let alone at 42... or older.

I am glad that Mariano vowed yesterday to pitch in 2013!
